Joy Nebergall
Studio Artist at Galena Center for the Arts
Acrylics and Watercolor, Painted Denim "Back the Arts"
What started as my major in high school, I took a 40-year break from the arts. After retiring and returning to Illinois, I found Galena! (Not as a weekend destination, but as a new home.) This welcoming community offered this artist a new chapter to write or... paint.
I enjoy sweeping canvases with a paint-covered palette knife. I put color in extraordinary places in my work. Natural scenes and objects are my preferred theme.
I recently began an exploration of painting Galena street scenes after painting live in a storefront window for the 2025 Galena Living Windows. (Galena's "Living Windows" is an annual holiday event in which local storefronts on Main Street come alive with festive, animated, and costumed displays. It takes place during the Night of the Luminaria & Living Windows.)
